New Pakistan Envoy Rizwan Saeed Sheikh To Reach US This Week

Washington, 19 August (TDI): The newly designated ambassador to the United States is believed to arrive in Washington D.C. the current week, media reports have revealed.

It was in June that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Islamabad revealed that the government was sending Additional Foreign Secretary (Middle East and SIFC) Rizwan Saeed Sheikh as Pakistan’s new envoy to the US.

As per the media reports, the appointment of a new ambassador to Washington was due for a long time. Masood Khan, outgoing ambassador, had already received a three-month extension after his contract ended in March. The extension also expired at the end of June.

The spokesperson of MOFA said in a recent statement that these appointments were under consideration for the last several weeks. The announcement has just been made.

The reports further suggested that the new envoy is expected to address the influence of the PTI in the US. The Congress recently adopted a resolution endorsing the PTI’s demands.
