Netflix to Release Titan – The OceanGate Disaster Documentary

New York (TDI): Netflix has announced the upcoming release of Titan: The OceanGate Disaster, a compelling new documentary that examines the tragic implosion of the Titan submersible during a deep-sea dive to the wreck of the Titanic.

The catastrophe claimed five lives, including those of Pakistani businessman and Engro Corporation Vice Chairman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, drawing international attention and sorrow.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mark Monroe, the documentary is set to premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 6, 2025, before becoming available for streaming on Netflix worldwide from June 11.

The feature is produced by the award-winning Story Syndicate, known for critically acclaimed titles such as Take Care of Maya, Gone Girls, and Britney v Spears.

TITAN: The OceanGate Disaster explores the ill-fated expedition led by OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, whose ambitious vision of deep-ocean exploration turned fatal.

Through intimate interviews, archived audio and video recordings, and gripping testimonies, the film dissects the decisions and engineering flaws that led to one of the most shocking maritime disasters in recent history.

In its powerful trailer, experts and former colleagues provide startling insights into Rush’s personality and motives. One voice chillingly states, “There was no way of knowing when Titan was going to fail, but it was a mathematical certainty that it would fail.”

Others describe the CEO as reckless and driven by ego, with one person calling him a “borderline psychopath.”

Rush’s own words echo hauntingly throughout the trailer: “I have no desire to die. I understand this risk. No one is dying under my watch.”

These statements now stand in painful contrast to the tragedy that unfolded on June 18, 2023, when the Titan submersible imploded during its descent, killing all five passengers on board.

The catastrophic failure was confirmed on June 22, ending a global rescue effort that had captivated millions.

Produced by Mark Monroe, Lily Garrison, and Jon Bardin, this documentary promises a sobering yet essential exploration of the risks, ethics, and ambitions behind private deep-sea exploration.
