Mumbai (TDI): A 2009 Indian film Luck is the subject of a lawsuit against Netflix, which is defending the popular series Squid Game.
The creator of Luck, Soham Shah, has accused Squid Game writer Hwang Dong-hyuk and the streaming behemoth of copying the storyline of his Hindi film.
Shah claims in the lawsuit that both projects have a group of hopeless, indebted people playing lethal games in hopes of winning big sums of money, with affluent viewers staking on the results.

Luck was released worldwide in 2009, according to Shah, who devised the plot in 2006. He also claims that because his movie had a lot of publicity and marketing, Netflix was able to acquire it.
The complaint calls into question the originality of the Netflix series by pointing out that Hwang Dong-hyuk claims to have written Squid Game the same year Luck was launched.

The lawsuit also demonstrates how Squid Game helped Netflix’s market value climb significantly—it is said to have increased by nearly $900 million.
In addition to requesting payment, Shah wants to stop Netflix from violating his copyright in the future.
Netflix hasn’t answered the case as of yet.
