Bangkok, 18 July 2023 (TDI): Nepal Minister of Foreign Affairs Narayan Prakash Saud participated in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) in Bangkok, Thailand.
On the sidelines of the Retreat, Foreign Minister Saud met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand Don Pramudwinai.
The two officials discussed matters regarding mutual interests, including tourism, culture and air connectivity.
Following Saud’s meeting with his Thai counterpart, he also met with the Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Ministerial Retreat.

The two officials exchanged views on matters related to bilateral cooperation and multifaceted relationship.
During the Retreat, the Foreign Ministers deliberated on key areas such as energy, health and food security, and technology.
Nepal joined BIMSTEC on February 8, 2004, and hosted the fourth BIMSTEC Summit in 2018 which is the highest policymaking body in the Organization.
BIMSTEC aims to create an enabling environment for rapid economic development; accelerate social progress; and promote collaboration on matters of common interest in the Bay of Bengal.

Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand are its member states, and the Organization’s Secretariat is situated in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Aside being a member state of BIMSTEC, Nepal is also a member of many regional and International organizations.
The country recognizes regional connectivity as one of the pathways to economic development thus Nepal appreciates its membership in BIMSTEC, and looks forward to maximizing this connectivity across the Region.
