Neo Marketing Pioneer Urges Govt Support for Gig Economy

Islamabad (TDI Special): Ameer Ali Salman, a self-proclaimed “Neo Marketeer” and founder of ameer&, is breaking stereotypes about rural youth through his remarkable work in the digital landscape.

At just 19, he has carved out a niche in Neo-Marketing—an advanced, data-driven approach that leverages algorithms to optimise search engine visibility. But Salman’s story is more than personal success; it is a clarion call for government reform to support Pakistan’s booming freelance economy.

“Pakistan’s gig economy is the third largest in the world, with over 1.5 million freelancers contributing to a $1 billion annual industry,” Salman said in an interview.

Yet, despite these impressive figures, Salman says the government’s support remains elusive, especially regarding secure and accessible payment options for freelancers working with international clients.

“There is no proper payment option endorsed by the Pakistani government. This forces freelancers to rely on services like Payoneer, which have proven unreliable,” he emphasized, echoing frustrations documented by many in the industry.

A study conducted by Payoneer in 2022 found that 40% of Pakistani freelancers face payment delays or disruptions. Salman’s proposed solution is simple but powerful: a government-regulated digital banking option that integrates with global payment networks.

“It’s a win-win. It ensures reliability for remote workers and generates additional tax revenue for the state,” he explained. His critique reflects a broader need for financial infrastructure to support the new digital workforce.

“Making money now is easier than ever with the invention of the Internet,” he remarked. His early explorations, motivated purely by interest, matured into a thriving enterprise.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, 64% of the population is under 30, a demographic goldmine that, if cultivated, could propel Pakistan’s digital future.

Salman’s narrative is both a wake-up call and an inspiration. “Our young generation must focus on skill development, not just imitate Western influences,” he said.
