Naqvi, US Envoy Discuss Regional Peace, Cooperation

Islamabad (TDI): Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker met with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday to discuss a range of important issues, including regional peace, counterterrorism, and growing cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.

The meeting, held in Islamabad, focused on strengthening ties in security and law enforcement, as well as responding to emerging threats in the region. Both sides stressed the need for continued engagement on matters of mutual concern.

Ambassador Baker said the United States views Pakistan as an important partner in efforts to promote regional stability. “We value our relationship with Pakistan and are committed to building on it across multiple areas,” she said.

The meeting also included a conversation on existing cooperation between the United States and Pakistan in areas such as drug control, intelligence exchange, and managing cross-border challenges. Both sides recognized that rising instability in surrounding regions has made close coordination more important than ever.

They also discussed the recent interaction between Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, and US President Donald Trump. According to those present, the meeting was seen as a meaningful gesture in terms of rebuilding trust and strategic engagement.

Both Ambassador Baker and Minister Naqvi described the interaction as a positive development in strategic relations.

Minister Naqvi praised Trump’s diplomatic role in helping de-escalate tensions between Iran and Israel, saying it demonstrated sincere leadership. He also recalled the US President’s earlier efforts to reduce friction between India and Pakistan.

“President Trump’s actions show a clear interest in peace,” Naqvi said. “We hope to see that approach extend to the situation in Gaza as well.”

He added that Pakistan has always believed in resolving conflicts, including the Kashmir dispute, through dialogue and diplomatic means.

Ambassador Natalie Baker noted Pakistan’s consistent efforts to support regional dialogue and maintain stability. She said the United States remains open to working with Pakistan on shared concerns, particularly where peace and security are at stake.

As the meeting wrapped up, both officials agreed to keep the lines of communication open and build on areas of mutual interest, including anti-terror work, controlling narcotics flow, and broader efforts to manage tensions in the region.
