Naqvi chairs meeting for SCO summit’s arrangements

Islamabad (TDI): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has chaired an important meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to review arrangements for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed the Interior Minister on preparations and arrangements SCO Summit meeting.

A press release issued on Tuesday said that during the meeting, progress on Islamabad’s beautification and other projects, in wake of the summit, were reviewed.

Interior Minister directed to ensue beautification of the Red Zone, particularly VIP routes, and landscaping along major roads.

He instructed that the city be adorned with beautiful flowers and fancy lights. Naqvi tasked the authorities with completing the renovation of the Jinnah Convention Center promptly.

He also issued necessary directives for expedited completion of beautification and construction works.

“The SCO Summit in Pakistan reflects the Government’s successful foreign policy,” Naqvi said while addressing the meeting.

During the meeting security arrangements for the SCO Summit were also reviewed.

After review of the arrangements for the summit, other issues concerning the capital city were also discussed.

As per directions of the Interior Minister, It was decided to take indiscriminate action against illegal housing societies.

He directed that in order to keep Islamabad free from illegal constructions and encroachments, no leniency must be shown in operations against these.

On dengue in the twin cities, the minister directed the Commissioner Islamabad and Commissioner Rawalpindi to jointly work regarding the prevention of disease.

He instructed the Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations to enhance coordination in boundary areas. “Twin cities’ administrations should conduct joint operations and promptly clear potential dengue breeding sites,” Naqvi said.

The Interior Minister directed to increase surveillance in the areas reporting dengue cases.
