Naela Receives Global Ambassador Award for Diplomacy Excellence

Islamabad (TDI): Naela Chohan, Former Ambassador of Pakistan to Argentina and Australia, and Special Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been honoured with the prestigious Global Ambassador Award 2024 in recognition of her exceptional service in diplomacy.

The 6th Global Ambassador Awards Ceremony 2024 was organized in Islamabad by The Diplomatic Insight, a global public diplomacy institution in Pakistan, with the presence of Ambassadors, diplomatic corps, Parliamentarians, government officials, business leaders, academics, media, and civil society members.

Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Dr. Farhat Asif, Chairperson of the Diplomatic Insight Group, welcomed distinguished guests and underscored the organization’s commitment to promoting global collaboration and diplomacy.

Naela Chohan is a distinguished diplomat and passionate advocate for women’s rights, with a career spanning decades.

She has made significant contributions to global diplomacy and social justice, including her work at the United Nations in New York.

Fluent in seven languages, Ambassador Chohan is an alumnus of Quaid-e-Azam University and the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard, and holds a Ph.D. Session Certificate from CEDS in Paris. She was honored as a Visiting Professor at Universidad del Salvador, Argentina.

Ambassador Chohan has held prominent positions in Pakistan’s Foreign Service, including Special Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

She served as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay, strengthening Pakistan’s ties with Latin America.

Her efforts led to Pakistan’s observer status in ALADI and boosted trade with Mercosur and the Andean Community.

She was the first civilian woman to lead Pakistan’s National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention and chaired the Asia Pacific Development Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

She played a key role in drafting Pakistan’s “Look Africa Policy” and doubling trade with Peru, establishing the Pakistan-Argentina Chambers of Commerce.

Beyond diplomacy, Ambassador Chohan is a celebrated artist, using her art to advocate for women’s empowerment and social justice. Her work has been exhibited at UNESCO and other global venues.

Her exhibitions, such as “Art from the Heart” and “Arise Women,” highlight critical social issues, demonstrating her commitment to fostering dialogue and positive change.
