New Delhi (TDI): Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing has arrived in India for a high-level official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, marking his first foreign trip since assuming civilian leadership.

According to Indian authorities, the visit underscores the importance of ties between India and Myanmar, with discussions expected to focus on political cooperation, economic engagement, and regional connectivity.

During his trip, Min Aung Hlaing will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi, following an earlier stop at the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Bodh Gaya, which holds significant cultural and religious importance for Myanmar and India.

Indian officials described the visit as a reflection of deep spiritual, historical, and people-to-people ties between the two countries, emphasizing that shared heritage continues to play a key role in shaping bilateral relations.

The Myanmar leader is also scheduled to travel to Mumbai, where he will engage with business representatives to explore opportunities for expanding trade and investment cooperation.

Bilateral trade between the two countries stood at approximately $1.95 billion in the 2025–26 period, with both sides expressing interest in increasing economic linkages in energy, infrastructure, and border trade.

The visit comes at a time when regional powers are increasingly focused on strengthening partnerships in South and Southeast Asia amid shifting geopolitical and economic dynamics.
