Myanmar Military Asks Rebels to Engage in Dialogue

ISLAMABAD (TDI): Myanmar’s military leaders have asked their opponents to lay down their weapons and begin political dialogue, a request that was swiftly dismissed.

The State Administration Council (SAC), the military’s governing body since its coup in February 2021, urged ethnic armed groups and the People’s Defence Forces (PDF) to abandon what it described as the “terrorist way” and seek negotiations.

Myanmar Military invites Armed Groups for Talks

Since launching a major offensive in October of last year, these armed groups have taken control of large areas of the country, significantly challenging the military’s authority.

In a statement published in the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar, the SAC invited these groups to resolve political issues through dialogue or electoral processes.

The Myanmar’s military called for negotiation in order to foster peace and development by renouncing armed conflict.
