Moscow, (TDI): Russia has declined to engage in nuclear talks with the United States (US), citing Washington’s stance on NATO expansion as a key issue.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that there is no point in dialogue with the U.S. unless Russia’s fundamental interests are respected.
She said that NATO’s expansion into post-Soviet territories poses a threat to common security.
In a related statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia will not pursue a new treaty to replace the current agreement limiting strategic nuclear weapons, which is set to expire in 2026.
