Rabat, 4 December 2021 (TDI): Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita attended the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the UN Like-Minded Group of Countries (LMG). These countries support middle-income countries in different ways. The meeting was held through a digital medium (online).

The theme of the meeting is “Emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic and the future of multilateral support to middle-income countries for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda”. Moreover, participants talked about debts, Covid-19, vaccines affordability, sustainable development, and the economy.

Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita pointed out that Morocco feels pleasure and honor in participating in the meeting. Further, he argued that the world is facing a Covid-19 pandemic.
So, there is a need for the international community to work for sustainable recovery from COVID 19 pandemic. Moreover, he urged the Group to ensure that middle-income countries are not left behind. Middle-income countries should be supported to effectively tackle the pandemic.
Besides, he stated that countries should cooperate to achieve global immunization. It will be done through facilitating affordable vaccines and strengthening multilateral mechanisms.
In addition, he emphasized about Sustainable Development Goals. He argued that middle-income countries must cooperate to meet their needs and challenges. Also, the members ought to further increase their role in multilateral cooperation processes.
He also talked about climate change. Minister Bourita emphasized speeding up the process of building a more resilient, green, and sustainable economy. Likewise, it will help to address climate change.
He highlighted the need to form a mechanism for prevention, preparedness, and response to future crises. Further, crises in the last two decades manifested the need for an adequate framework from the global to the domestic level.
He also talked about New People-Centered Development Model. Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has launched this model. The model aims to advance quality education, economic growth, women empowerment, green energy & technology, and social programs.
