MOFA Azerbaijan welcomes new head of UNICEF in Azerbaijan

Baku, 10 August 2021 (TDI): Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, welcomed Alex Haykens, the new head of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Azerbaijan.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov praised and commended the new Representation chief on his appointment. Jeyhun Bayramov also expressed hope that the new Mission’s experience will help to enhance the mutual collaboration between Azerbaijan and UNICEF.

Alex Haykens expressed gratitude to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for the warm welcome and gained prominence with his appointment to Azerbaijan. Simultaneously, the head of the Representation highlighted the significance of every child’s right for having access to quality education and also said about UNICEF work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The parties also discussed issues of mutual interest. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov discussed the repercussions of Armenia’s aggressive policy toward Azerbaijan, including attacks on Azerbaijani civilians, homes, and other civilian objects. He provided detailed information about the destruction in the liberated territories, the damage to cultural and religious monuments, and the reconstruction work done in the occupied territories.
