Bishkek (TDI): Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has underscored the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, reiterating this position during his address at the Organization of Turkic States summit held this week in the Kyrgyz capital.
Mirziyoyev spoke on the growing complexity of global geopolitical challenges, pointing to heightened tensions, increased competition, and a surge in conflict zones across various regions.
“These issues create significant barriers to our shared aspirations and major projects in trade, investment, energy, transport, agriculture, and beyond,” he remarked, stressing the need for a united front among the member states.
Discussing the Middle East crisis, he expressed profound concern over the humanitarian crisis engulfing Gaza and Lebanon.
“There is no justification for the humanitarian tragedy that we see unfolding — the destruction and loss of civilian lives, especially innocent children, women, and the elderly,” said the Uzbek leader.
He condemned the curtailment of operations by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, which provides vital support in the region.

Mirziyoyev reiterated Uzbekistan’s position that the only pathway to lasting peace in the Middle East lies in establishing an independent Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, aligning with international laws and UN resolutions.
He voiced hope that the upcoming Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh would yield a strong political solution to address the crisis.
Turning his attention to Afghanistan, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of the country’s stability for regional security.
He advocated for establishing a regular dialogue framework at ministerial and expert levels within the Organization of Turkic States.
