Ramallah, 24 June 2024 (TDI): Today, Dr Shaheen, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Palestine, called on Lithuania to recognize Palestinian statehood.
The Lithuanian Ambassador, Venkatesh, and the Palestinian Ambassador, Dr Awadallah, participated in the meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters.
While urging Lithuania to recognize the state of Palestine, Dr Shaheen stressed that bringing peace to the region was necessary. Meanwhile she also acknowledged the contributions of the government of Lithuania in the cause of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Furthermore, Palestine today needs international recognition and legitimacy for Israeli aggression to stop. For that purpose, the Minister of State emphasized the strategies for consolidating diplomatic relations between the two countries. Moreover, the two countries must work together to find common grounds for cooperation via consultations.
Call to Action for International Recognition
Additionally, to put an end to the systematic and deliberate genocide of Palestinians by the Israeli Defense Forces, there is an ever-growing necessity to the rest of the international community to extend recognition to State of Palestine.
Dr. Shaheen urged the world community to implement the two-state solution. Israel must be made to comply with international norms and legitimate practices.
Response of Lithuanian Ambassador
Likewise, Ambassador Venkatesh emphasized that Lithuania will continue working to assist Palestinian institutions. The assistance will be provided, particularly in the areas of technological development and women’s empowerment.
He further added that his nation supports Palestine, its people and the two-state solution. He emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral ties and the need for political consultations between the two nations.

Conclusively, while highlighting the scope and severity of Israeli atrocities in Gaza strip, Palestine’s Minister of State called for a comprehensive solution. One that shall take into account Israel’s genocidal war and the matter of Palestinian statehood and right of self-determination.
