Minister Meryame Kitir visits Jordan and Lebanon

Brussels, 20 September 2021 (TDI): Meryame Kitir, Minister of Development Cooperation, will visit Lebanon and Jordan from 19 to 24 September to discuss the humanitarian issues faced by both countries.

Jordan and Lebanon host the largest number of refugees in the world.

The purpose of the visit is to check the humanitarian problems both countries are facing as it concerns Belgium.

The Minister of Development Cooperation will discuss the situation of Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon

Minister Kitir’s agenda would be health care, education, and food insecurity in Jordan and Lebanon.
Moreover, Belgium will donate around 2 million euros to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

Meryame is also scheduled to visit the camps of Palestinian refugees and shed light on the need for education.

“I want to feel, see and hear on the ground how we can concretely protect and empower all these people, especially women and children, and where we can best deploy our aid,” says the minister.
