Mexico City, 28 July 2022 (TDI): Mexico is elected to the presidency of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the OAS for the period 2022-2023.

Mexico was elected for the presidency by the member states of the Committee during the online 22nd regular session of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE).
The 22nd CICTE session of the Organization of American States (OAS) took place on Wednesday 27 July.
Martha Delgado Peralta, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights led the Mexican delegation at the session.
Mexico’s Objectives for Presidency
In her speech, Undersecretary Martha Delgado thanked CICTE members for their trust in Mexico to chair the Committee. She assured that her country will give priority to building capacities in the hemisphere countries for the prevention of terrorism.
Mexico will give particular impetus to international cooperation on cybersecurity, security in civil aviation and major events. Security of the supply chain and prevention of violent extremism is also on the agenda of cooperation.
Mexico also commits to CICTE and to the inter-American agenda to promote efforts to prevent and combat terrorism.
Mexico believes to endorse these objectives from a comprehensive perspective. A perspective based on the particular needs of the countries of the Americas and in full compliance with international law.
What is CICTE?
CICTE is the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism. It is the only regional entity whose purpose is to prevent and combat terrorism in the Americas.
It prevents and combats terrorism through hemispheric cooperation and the exchange of experiences and good practices.
The Committee meets regularly every year, to address different issues of interest related to regional security.
The CICTE Secretariat is the implementation body that has the task of supporting member states in their efforts to prevent and counteract terrorism.
It provides technical and administrative support for sessions and to member states in response to their needs and requests. It also coordinates activities with other international, regional and sub-regional organizations.
