Maroof Cardiovascular Center Marks World Heart Day With a Strong Action Call

Islamabad (TDI): Up to 80% of heart attacks and strokes are preventable through simple lifestyle changes, said Haroon Naseer, CEO of Maroof International Hospital, at a World Heart Day 2025 awareness event held in collaboration with Serena Hotels.

Hosted by Maroof Cardiovascular Center, the event gathered a diverse group of stakeholders including healthcare experts, media professionals, diplomats, policymakers, and students.

The focus was on raising awareness about cardiovascular disease (CVD) and pushing for a national shift toward preventive healthcare.

Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, the event’s chief guest, emphasized the urgent need to strengthen Pakistan’s health infrastructure.

With Pakistan now the sixth most populous country in the world, the minister highlighted the importance of early intervention, public awareness, and prevention in reducing the growing burden of heart disease.

Haroon Naseer spotlighted the preventable nature of heart disease, stating that up to 80% of heart attacks and strokes can be avoided with better nutrition, regular exercise, and lifestyle modifications.

He reiterated Maroof’s dedication to community service through free medical camps, media campaigns, and educational sessions. “Together, we can fight cardiovascular disease and build a future where every heart beats stronger,” Naseer affirmed.

Dr. Mir Waheed, Medical Director and Head of Emergency Services at Maroof, echoed these sentiments, sharing the success of the hospital’s partnership with the Punjab government’s Children Heart Surgery Program, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Since its launch in November 2024, the initiative has completed over 100 life-saving surgeries for children from underserved communities.

The event also featured a free on-site medical and dental camp offering heart consultations, vital checks, and lifestyle guidance to the public.

A dynamic panel discussion co-moderated by Dr. Waheed and journalist Sidra Iqbal further enriched the day.

Panelists included top cardiologists, psychiatrists, and public health professionals who stressed the need for integrating mental health with heart care, expanding community outreach, and promoting health education at all levels.
