Glasgow, 1 November 2021 (TDI): Maldivian President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has attended the event. It was titled ‘Rediscovering Nitrogen: Solutions and Synergies for Climate Change, Health, Biodiversity, and Circular Economy.
This was a side-event at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26). it held in Glasgow, Scotland. President Solih was accompanied at the event by the Maldivian Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, Aminath Shauna. Along with the Maldivian Secretary of Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood.
Sri Lankan President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa along with the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland was also present. Speaking at the event, The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth praised the Maldivian Government. Moreover, She mentioned that the Maldives is a nation that delivers. she also acknowledged the efforts of the Maldivian Government. it actively works towards alleviating the effects of the climate emergency.
Rediscovering nitrogen
The ‘Rediscovering Nitrogen’ is a side-event at COP26. The Government of Sri Lanka along with the International Nitrogen Management System (INMS) hosted this event. This event is a part of the Nitrogen4NetZero series of events. For instance, The theme reflects the upcoming 250th anniversary of the scientific discovery of nitrogen in Scotland. It offers a key moment now to ‘rediscover nitrogen’ for climate and environmental action.

Nitrogen4NetZero is a developing international initiative that highlights the need for sustainable nitrogen management. It can play an integral part in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The goals of the Nitrogen4NetZero events are to raise awareness of the importance of nitrogen for climate action. This event was organized to work with governments to prepare their positions related to nitrogen on the pathway to COP-26.
