Glasgow, 2 November 2021 (TDI): Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid, met with government officials of various countries. These meetings took place on the sidelines of the 26th annual meeting of the United Nations Climate Change conference in Glasgow, UK.
This conference, also known as the Conference of the Parties. The member states meet annually to make decisions to avert climate crises. At the conference, the Maldivian Foreign Minister met with Bangladeshi President, Sheikh Hasina. Moreover, He also had a meeting with the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister, Abul Kalam Abdul Momin. Both sides had a constructive discussion to avert the Climate Crisis. Bangladesh is adopting a comprehensive climate change action plan in 2009. Moreover, it is also investing in building projects like submersible roads.

Abdulla Shahid also met with Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau at the summit. In 2018, Canada gave funds to the Maldives to fight Climate Change. Both countries are actively cooperating to deal with climate vulnerabilities.

Moreover, Abdulla Shahid met with the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, and the President of Namibia, Hage Geingob. They discussed Climate change impacts, water supply and food security. Both Zimbabwe and Namibia have strategized to fight climate issues.

Abdulla Shahid also met the President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera. They discussed issues related to coronavirus and its vaccination process.

In his meeting with the United Kingdom’s Minister of State, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Tariq Mahmood Ahmad. They discussed upcoming events on the UNGA calendar.

Abdulla Shahid and officials had a productive discussion related to the issues of climate change and its possible solutions. Everyone acknowledged the worsening climate crises and resolved to control the situation.
