Male, 2 November 2021 (TDI): Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid Sent felicitations to the Foreign Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Paul Chet Greene on their 40th independence day. Abdulla Shahid expressed greetings and good wishes to the people and the government of Antigua and Barbuda on the occasion of their independence day.
Antigua and Barbuda celebrate Independence Day on November 1st. It became an independent state on 1 November 1981 by ending 350 years long British rule. As an independent nation, Antigua and Barbuda assign Ambassadors overseas who represent the country. They sign treaties on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda and become members of various international organizations.
Abdulla Shahid congratulated the people of Antigua and Barbuda on the behalf of his populace on their independence day. Abdulla Shahid expressed that Male wants to strengthen the ties with Saint John’s on international and national levels.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Antigua and Barbuda were established on 25 March 2002. Both countries have signed various international treaties. Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda also visited the Maldives in 2010. Also, attended the meeting of the Cartagena Group also known as Dialogue for Progressive Action. Both countries are a member of the Commonwealth, International Maritime Organization (IMO), World Trade Organization (WTO), United Nations (UN). Abdulla Shahid expressed his best wishes to the government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda and ensured his full support and consideration in all matters.
