Kuala Lumpur (TDI): Malaysia and Cuba have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation as both countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year.
Malaysian Foreign Minister Seri Mohamad Hasan met with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla, in Kuala Lumpur to discuss ways to enhance collaboration in trade, health care, education, and tourism.

The meeting underscored both countries’ mutual interest in deepening trade and economic engagement and diversifying bilateral cooperation in tourism, education, biotechnology and energy.
Both Foreign Ministers discussed existing bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Cuba, including in the areas of tourism, renewable energy, education, and biotechnology. (2/3)

Malaysia recognises Cuba as an important market for Malaysian rubber and palm oil products and sees potential for further collaboration in the food processing sector.
The two sides agreed to keep working together through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). This program has helped strengthen their relationship and share knowledge in important areas of development. In the biomedical field, they discussed opportunities for joint research and building skills, especially to support Malaysia.
Malaysia is prepared to support Cuba in the halal industry by sharing its experience and expertise to identify key areas of cooperation.
In 2025, Malaysia, as the Chair of ASEAN, highlighted the need to strengthen engagement between ASEAN and Cuba, especially in diplomacy and economics. Malaysia looks forward to working more closely with Cuba through ASEAN. The country also aims for deeper cooperation with BRICS to enhance socio-economic conditions in the Global South.
During his visit to Malaysia, Bruno also met with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, collaborated with the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on International Relations, and engaged in various diplomatic activities.

Bruno is visiting Malaysia on an official visit from February 12 to 15, marking his first trip there since taking over the office in 2009.
