Paris/Moscow (TDI): French President, Emmanuel Macron, and the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, discussed the issue of Ukraine and the Iran-Israel war during a telephone call, on Tuesday. This is the first telephone conversation between the two presidents in over three years.
According to the office of the French President, the call lasted for two hours, during which President Macron called for a ceasefire in Ukraine and restart of the negotiation process to end the conflict between the two countries.
He also emphasized “France’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

After the call with the Russian President, the French President talked to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and President Donald Trump to inform them about the conversation.
Discussing the issue of Ukraine, the Russian President said that the ongoing war in Ukraine was a direct consequence of the West’s policies, which had ignored the security interests of Russia in the past few years.
He further reiterated that the peace agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine war should have a “comprehensive and a long-term character,” and it must be based on “new territorial realities.”
During the past several occasions, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has made similar demands, urging Ukraine to accept Russia’s annexation of its territories as part of any peace deal.
Responding to this, the French President stated that Ukraine alone should decide on whether or not to accept any territorial concessions.

Moreover, the two leaders also discussed the Iran-Israel war. Macron stressed the need for Iran to cooperate and comply with the regulations of the IAEA, the office of the French President said.
On the other hand, Kremlin reported that Putin deemed it necessary to respect Iran’s right to peaceful development of nuclear energy.
Last month, the Iranian Parliament approved a bill to suspend its cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), after Israel and the United States attacked Iran’s nuclear sites, intending to prevent the country from acquiring the nuclear weapons.
Commenting on the Iran-Israel conflict, Macron “expressed his determination to seek a diplomatic solution that would lead to a lasting and rigorous resolution of the nuclear issue, the question of Iran’s missiles, and its role in the region.”
Both Presidents decided to “coordinate” their efforts with regards to the Iran-Israel conflict and the issue of Ukraine.
