Vilnius, 01 October 2021 (TDI): The Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte met Mary, the Crown Princess of Denmark in Lithuania’s capital. The meeting marked the 30th Anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Princess Mary is the Countess of Monpezat, and wife to heir apparent of Denmark, Prince Frederik. This means that she will become the Queen Consort of Denmark if her husband succeeds to the throne.
Lithuania and Denmark re-established diplomatic relations in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since then, Denmark and Lithuania have enjoyed increasing trade and cordial bilateral relations. Denmark provided a billion dollars in aid to Lithuania from its independence in 1990 till 2003. The yearly trade volume between the two countries is almost a billion dollars.
The meeting also marks the 100th anniversary of the first establishment of diplomatic relations. The visit of the Danish crown princess signifies the importance of Lithuania for Denmark. She enjoys great public attention in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.
At the event, Ingrida Simonyte, the Prime Minister of Lithuania emphasized high value Lithuania gives to Denmark. She also reiterated the importance of the close relationship between the two countries.
