Latvian in solidarity flood victims in Turkey

Riga, 18 August 2021 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, expresses his solidarity with the victims of the floods in Turkey. Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs gave his deepest condolences to the people affected by the devastating floods and with the family members and friends of the victims of the natural disaster.

On Thursday, The Black Sea coast of Turkey was hit by a devastating flood. Authorities have confirmed the deaths of nearly 74 people in the devastating flood. The area most affected by the floods was the town of Bozkurt in the province of Kastamonu, along with two other provinces. A large number of people have disappeared and research teams are on their duty round the clock to help locals. Turkey has also been facing severe wildfires in the south, the avalanche disaster has further worsened the situation for the public.

The effects of the floods were severe, buildings collapsed, bridges were destroyed, roads were blocked by wrecked cars, and many areas ran out of electricity. Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan also visited Kastamonu and attended the funeral of the victims.
