Beijing (TDI): Latin American and Caribbean countries are set to capitalize on growing opportunities in the Chinese market, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
Speaking in response to a media question at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, Mao highlighted the benefits these countries have experienced from participating in the annual event.
Each year, companies from Latin America and the Caribbean bring distinctive products to the CIIE, benefitting from enhanced market access, Mao noted.
Products like Honduran shrimp and Nicaraguan honey have gained direct entry into Chinese markets, while the new “Xiamen-São Paulo” air cargo route and agreements with Chinese e-commerce platforms have facilitated greater trade.

China’s consistent market openness, coupled with initiatives like the Belt and Road, have deepened cross-hemisphere connections, enabling Latin American countries to secure economic growth within the Chinese market, Mao added.
At the CIIE, Chile’s Andean cherries made a global debut, and Peruvian blueberries have become popular items in China’s supermarkets.
A recent report from the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) noted China’s rise as the fastest-growing export market for the region.

Since 2000, trade between China and Latin America has increased 35-fold, a stark contrast to the fourfold growth in trade with other global markets.
