Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Met Wendy Morton in Glasgow

Glasgow, 3 November 2021 (TDI): On Monday, the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Ruslan Kazakbayev, met with Wendy Morton, the United Kingdom’s Minister for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland. The representatives discussed bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and the United Kingdom, besides stressing alliance on the United Nations Environment Programme.

 

During the conversation with Wendy Morton, the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister commended Great Britain’s leading role in coordinating international efforts to address the climate crisis. He also expressed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to curb global warming and promote environment-friendly initiatives.

While in Glasgow, both sides expressed mutual readiness to enhance UK-Kyrgyzstan bilateral relations and also discussed regional security issues, particularly the political and humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

The officials further discussed joint events approaching next year to celebrate 30 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Moreover, both sides unanimously agreed to enhance mutual coordination with respect to reforming the environment sector.

The 26th summit of the United Nations Conference of Parties opened on October 31 and will continue till November 12, 2021, in Glasgow. The Conference acts as the decision-making body responsible for monitoring climate change and gathering world leaders to suggest measures to tackle climatic threats.
