Kyrgyzstan welcomes the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States

Bishkek, 9 August 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev received the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), Baghdad Amreyev, on August 9.

Proceedings of the Meeting

During the meeting, the officials discussed the prospects for the development of the Organization, in the near future. They also discussed the activities planned under this international organization for the coming year.

Minister J. Kulubaev thanked the United Territorial Communities (UTC) for the comprehensive support of Kyrgyzstan. He also appreciated the active multifaceted activities of the Organization to strengthen unity between the Turkic states.

In this regard, the Minister also assessed the work of the 13th meeting of the Council of Aksakalov, held the day before in Bishkek. In addition to this, the parties also planned the establishment of an investment fund for the territorial communities in Bishkek.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General also informed about the progress of the Organization’s preparations for the upcoming UHT Summit in Samarkand on November 11, 2022.

In particular, he noted the preparation for the signing of the document “Strategy of united territorial communities for 2022-2026”. This document covers political, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and educational cooperation between the member states of the Organization.

In this meeting, both sides also exchanged views on topical issues on the agenda of the Organization of Turkic States. They also expressed mutual interest in further deepening the cooperation of Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the UTC.

Organization of Turkic States (OTS)

The Organization of Turkic States (OTS), formerly known as the Turkic Council is an intergovernmental organization. Its main goal is to promote comprehensive cooperation among Turkic-speaking peoples and nations.

The member states of OTS include Turkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan along with observer states Turkmenistan and Hungary.

All these states pledge to enhance cooperation in combating international terrorism, separatism, extremism, and cross-border crime, as well as promote trade and investment in the region.
