Bishkek, (TDI): During the state visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to China, key investment agreements in the energy sector were signed, marking a significant step in bilateral cooperation.
One of these agreements, signed between the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the Chinese corporation Shenzhen Energy Group Co., Ltd., outlines the construction and operation of a 300 MW wind power plant in Kyrgyzstan.
Additionally, a second agreement with Shenzhen Energy Group Co., Ltd. was concluded, paving the way for the establishment of a 300 MW solar power plant.
“These agreements open new prospects for energy cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China, contributing to the development of renewable energy sources, attracting investment, and strengthening the energy security of the republic,” the statement highlighted.
China has emerged as Kyrgyzstan’s leading trade and economic partner. In 2022, it accounted for 37 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s total trade, surpassing all other nations. Moreover, China remains the country’s largest bilateral creditor.
Kyrgyzstan actively participates in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), viewing it as a means to attract foreign direct investment, upgrade transportation infrastructure, and strengthen connectivity with China and Europe. The nation is also engaged in the Digital Silk Road Initiative, enhancing its cooperation with China in high-tech industries.
