KSRelief to enhance food security in Pakistan

Islamabad, 17 April 2022 (TDI): The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) has begun an initiative to enhance food security in Pakistan. For the year 2022, the center will be delivering 75,000 food packages. This delivery will take place in three phases. Accordingly, all provinces of Pakistan will receive these packages with the help of the National Disaster Management Authority.

The first phase:

The first phase will take place during the month of Ramadan. Firstly, it will see the distribution of 25,000 food packets. And around 175,000 individuals will profit from the project. Nine districts of Sindh, three districts of Punjab, and Gilgit Baltistan’s district, Roundu will see the implementation of the program. KSrelief will supervise the distribution of the food bags and the local government will provide assistance to the center in the selection of the recipients.

These aforementioned food bags will be distributed in Sindh province’s Badin, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, UmerKot, Sajawal, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazir Abad, Khairpur, Ghotki; Punjab province’s Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, and earthquake-affected residents of Gilgit Baltistan’s district Roundu.

Each box weighs 97 kilograms and contains 80 kilograms of flour, 5 liters of cooking oil, 5 kilograms of sugar, 5 kilograms of Daal Chana, and 2 kilograms of dates. The items should be enough to feed a household for the whole month of Ramadan.

The second phase:

The second phase will begin in July. In this phase, there will be the distribution of 25,000 food packages in KPK.

The third phase: 

Finally, the third phase would begin in October 2022 to address humanitarian food emergencies and requirements throughout Pakistan.

This project is part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian efforts.

These efforts include assisting needy families. They would also help achieve food security for Pakistan’s most vulnerable groups, as represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Assistance and Relief Center.
