Vienna, 26 September 2022 (TDI): Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud, met the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, on Monday.

The two dignitaries exchanged thoughts on topics of common interest. The meeting happened on the sidelines of the First day of the 66th IAEA General Conference at the Agency’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of IAEA in-depth exchanged the nuclear power Program of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) with the Minister of Energy of the KSA.

In addition to that, they also exchanged thoughts on the capacity-building, & Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) potential.

Moreover, the Director General of IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi also Inaugurated Saudi-Arabia Exhibit at the 66th session of IAEA.

The exhibition aims to learn more about the Kingdom’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission and the importance of strong regulations.

Saudi Arabia is a good Partner of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Kingdom has contributed an amount of $2.5 million to support the Agency’s initiative to modernize its laboratories.

66th IAEA General Conference

The four-day conference commenced on 26 September 2022 and is currently happening at the Agency’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The Representatives from the IAEA’s 175 Member States will be participating in the 66th General Conference.

The High-ranking officials and representatives from IAEA 175 Member States will consider a range of issues.

The 2021 Annual Report and the 2023 budget for strengthening activities related to nuclear science, technology, and Innovation Project Implementation will be discussed on Monday, 26 September 2022.

In Addition, The Global Energy Crisis and the Role of Advanced Nuclear Technology will also be addressed.

Moreover, in the upcoming days of the Conference, Nuclear safety, security, and safeguards in Ukraine and safeguards in the Middle East and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will also be a part of the esteemed discussion.

Throughout the week, both the IAEA and its Member States will host about 80 side events. General Conference Sessions at the Plenary Hall, including the statements of officials and delegates, will be streamed live during the whole week of the General Conference.
