PESHAWAR September 04, 2024 (TDI): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday called on Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly, alleging that he no longer has a majority in the house.
In a press conference in Peshawar, Governor Kundi criticized the provincial government for failing to appoint Vice-Chancellors at universities, pointing out that the court had rejected the government’s authority on this issue.
He urged the provincial government to expedite these appointments to avoid jeopardizing the future of the youth.
Kundi highlighted that 26 universities in the province are currently without Vice-Chancellors and expressed concern about the potential sale of university land, vowing that no such sale would occur during his tenure.
Kundi also criticized the frequent suspension of assembly sessions, suggesting that the Chief Minister was avoiding calling them and likely lost the confidence of assembly members.
He urged the Chief Minister to seek a vote of confidence, asserting that the Chief Minister no longer has majority support.
Regarding the summary for cabinet changes, Kundi mentioned he was not rushing to sign it and had not yet consulted legal experts.
He noted receiving numerous inquiries about the summary’s status and questioned the reasons behind the proposed cabinet reshuffle.
Kundi also demanded accountability for corrupt and incompetent cabinet members, likening the frequent changes to a football match. He emphasized that he would take his time before considering signing the summary.

It is worth noting that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur currently holds an absolute majority in the now 120-member provincial assembly, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party holding 91 seats.
The total assembly comprises 145 members, including 25 reserved seats that have yet to be allocated to PTI.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s decision on these reserved seats, which had previously entitled PTI for these seats and declared the electoral body’s decision to allocate them to the ruling coalition as unconstitutional.
