Seoul, 10 January 2022 (TDI): Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated the unanimous ardent stance of the leaders of the Five Nuclear Weapon states namely China, Russia, United States of America, England, and France on the subject matter “Prevention from Nuclear War and Arms Races”.
This is the first time in history that the leaders of the said Five Nuclear States issued a joint statement on preventing nuclear war and avoidance from the Arms Races while not aiming their nuclear devices at each other or at any state.
The Korean government acknowledged the pragmatism of the Joint Statement of the 5 nuclear states as this will promote global peace and stability but this will also help to improve the global nuclear non-proliferation system based on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The Korean government exclusively appreciated the fact that the Five Nuclear-Weapon States have jointly stated for the first time that “a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.”
Their shared voice of maintaining global strategic stability and reducing the risk of nuclear conflicts is also conducive to forging major-country relations featuring overall stability and balanced development.
The Korean government also encouraged the participation of the Five nuclear-weapon States for the purpose to achieve real progress in nuclear disarmament and preventing arms races by their bilateral and multilateral constructive conversations to impede any sort of military confrontations.
The Korean government has been actively participating in multilateral initiatives promoting substantive nuclear disarmament including the Stockholm Initiative and the “Creating an Environment for Nuclear Disarmament (CEND).”
Furthermore, the determined propensity has been shown by the foreign office of the Korean government that their efforts would be persistent for the sustainment and consolidation of the NPT regime for the best interest of global peace and prosperity.
It has been hoped that the five States would continue to enhance strategic mutual trust by strengthening their mutual communication cum cooperation and play their positive role in building a world with lasting peace and universal security.
While the P5 assured that they are affixed to follow a self-defensive nuclear strategy, and committed to no first use of nuclear weapons. They are adhering to keeping their nuclear forces at the minimum level, merely required to safeguard their national security.
This in itself is a major contribution to global strategic stability. They will continue to facilitate each other by sharing their providence, technical support, and solution to promote global nuclear governance, and stand ready to cooperate with all peace-loving countries.
