Seoul, 4 September 2021 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs South Korea, Chung Eui-yong had a meeting and an official dinner with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Laos People’s Democratic Republic, Saleumxay Kommasith. The two Foreign Ministers exchanged in-depth views and development on bilateral cooperation and major diplomatic regional and global issues.
As both ministers actively promote mutual diplomatic exchanges, including visits of high-level Lao officials to Korea. They will also hold the 5th Korea-Lao PDR Policy Consultation.
Foreign and Defense Ministers of the Lao PDR were invited by Chung to the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial to be held this year in Seoul from December 7 to 8. In this way, they can enhance cooperation in the fields of national defense and defense industries based on the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Defense Cooperation signed between Korea and the Lao PDR last June.
Both will also actively seek concrete measures to expand bilateral trade and investment. As many Korean companies are interested in tapping into the geographical advantage of Laos, Chung asked for facilitation to promote their investment and their participation in major infrastructure projects.
In the end, both expressed their gratitude and appreciation as they continue to support each other amid COVID-19 through aid and development.
