ISLAMABAD, (TDI): King Charles III of the United Kingdom on Wednesday spoke to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over phone and formally invited him to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa this October.
Accepting the invitation, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the significance of the summit, noting that it will be the first CHOGM chaired by the King since he became Head of the Commonwealth.
During the conversation, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Commonwealth and the principles outlined in the Commonwealth Charter.
He highlighted that the Samoa meeting would serve as a valuable platform for discussing opportunities to enhance cooperation among Commonwealth nations on critical issues such as sustainable development, the strengthening of democratic institutions, and the empowerment of youth.

Acknowledging the King’s longstanding dedication to environmental issues and climate sustainability, the Prime Minister expressed his eagerness to engage with Commonwealth leaders on the urgent matter of climate change, particularly given Pakistan’s vulnerability to its impacts.
Prime Minister Sharif also inquired about the King’s health and extended his best wishes to Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, who has recently completed her treatment.

Reflecting on the King’s last visit to Pakistan as the Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the King and Her Majesty The Queen would visit Pakistan again soon.
