Qingdao (TDI): Attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Defense Ministers Meeting on Thursday, Defense Minister Pakistan, Khawaja Asif reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to fight against terrorism and promote peace and stability, security and multilateral cooperation under the SCO framework.
Addressing the meeting, Defense Minister Pakistan emphasized on the importance of collective efforts and cooperation to address the security concerns on global and regional level. He also highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering adherence to the principles of United Nations Charter which includes non-aggression, territorial integrity, mutual respect and peaceful conflict resolution.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif condemned Israel’s strikes on Iran, he also called for restraint, dialogue and diplomacy to ease the tensions in the Middle East region. He also reflected on the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza and urged the international community for a permanent ceasefire and uninterrupted humanitarian aid.
In addition to this, Khawaja Asif emphasized on terrorism as a global threat and stated
“Terrorism is a common threat. Pakistan calls on all state to desist from politicising the joint effort of International Community to fight the means of terrorism to deflect attention from their internal failures.”

Moreover, he also mentioned Pakistan’s significant role in the global war on terror, highlighting Pakistan’s continued operations against terrorist groups such as TTP, BLA, ISKP and ensured the country’s zero tolerance policy towards terrorist groups.
Defense Minister Pakistan also acknowledged and appreciated SCO’s efforts against the three evils terrorism, separatism and extremism. He also emphasized strengthening cooperation in cyber security, anti-narcotics, and counter extremist ideologies.
He concluded his address by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to working with all member states of SCO and to promote peace, stability, collective security and regional prosperity.
