Nairobi, 8 September 2021 (TDI): Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired the first Africa-CARICOM summit on Tuesday. President Uhuru Kenyatta called for closer partnerships between African and Caribbean countries in order to increase their efforts to tackle common challenges such as Covid-19, climate change, and public debt.
At the first meeting of Heads of State and Government of the African and Caribbean Community (CARICOM), President Kenyatta stated that the leaders of the two regions need to deepen existing historical and cultural ties that unite their nations with socio-economic policies and should build strong relations to promote common prosperity and social progress.
The first virtual meeting, entitled “Unity between Continents and Oceans: Opportunities for Deepening Integration,” aimed to foster closer cooperation between African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries, including their diaspora and institutions.
