Almaty (TDI): Kazakhstan has emerged as Central Asia’s frontrunner in artificial intelligence (AI) readiness, according to recent data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The country ranks 48th globally in AI readiness, ahead of other regional states, The Times of Central Asia reported.
The AI readiness index, which evaluates 174 nations, factors in elements such as digital infrastructure, human capital, technological innovation, and regulatory frameworks.
Drawing from datasets provided by the World Bank, International Labor Organization, and additional sources, the index highlights Kazakhstan’s comparative advantage within the region.
With an index score of 0.55, Kazakhstan closely follows Russia, which ranks 47th.
Consulting firm McKinsey & Company has also underscored Kazakhstan’s adoption of AI to enhance public sector services.

Notable applications include geographic information systems and spatial data analysis, which are streamlining service delivery and infrastructure development across the country.
A significant example of Kazakhstan’s AI-driven approach is the deployment of a statistical model that combines geographic, demographic, and economic data to assess infrastructure needs across 6,293 villages.
This tool has identified 3,500 villages with high development potential, covering 90% of Kazakhstan’s rural population.

The model enables targeted government investment, ensuring that essential services reach underserved rural communities.
