Astana, 30 August 2024 (TDI): Kazakhstan has officially recognized Mohammad Rahman Rahmani as the Chargé d’Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in the country.
This recognition is part of Kazakhstan’s ongoing efforts to formalize relations with Afghanistan under its current administration.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev met with Rahmani in Astana to discuss Afghanistan’s engagement with regional countries to support its economic revival and stability.
The ministry’s statement on the meeting did not mention the Taliban’s self-designation as the “Islamic Emirate.”

Move to Enhance Cooperation
The move aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, and humanitarian sectors between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan.
Bakayev highlighted that these efforts are intended to positively impact Afghanistan’s situation and contribute to regional peace and stability.
This step follows Turkmenistan’s recent decision to accept a Taliban diplomat as Chargé d’Affaires in Ashgabat.
Kazakhstan’s approach aligns with the broader regional strategy of engaging with the Taliban regime.
In June, Kazakhstan’s President removed the Taliban from the country’s list of terrorist organizations, a decision aimed at facilitating economic relations with Afghanistan under its current government.
