Kazakhstan Ranks 2nd in CIS for Gasoline Buying Power

Astana (TDI): Kazakhstan stands out for its strong gasoline purchasing power, allowing residents to buy a significant amount of fuel with their average monthly income.

Compared to other countries in the CIS group, only Russia ranks higher. On average, Kazakh citizens can buy around 1,100 liters of gasoline each month with their earnings, just a bit less than Russia’s 1,140 liters.

Other neighboring countries fall behind, with Belarus at about 800 liters and Kyrgyzstan under 500.

When looking worldwide, Libya leads by a big margin, with people there able to buy more than 10,000 liters on an average salary.

On the flip side, countries like Syria and Cuba can afford only a tiny amount of gasoline with their wages.

Gasoline prices in Kazakhstan remain quite low and about 50 cents per liter making it one of the cheaper places to fill up a tank.

A few countries like Libya and Kuwait have cheaper prices, but many places, especially in cities like Hong Kong and Reykjavik, charge much more.

The price level has slightly increased in Kazakhstan this year. In April 2025, fuel prices were up from the previous month and also roughly about 2% higher than the same period last year.

Regional variations were noted: with some regions registering minor price increases, some stayed constant, and a few even showed some price declines.

In the first two months of 2025, local refineries fulfilled almost completely the gasoline needs of Kazakhstan.

Production levels above 20% are noted as compared to last year, while imports declined. Some gasoline was also exported, primarily to Uzbekistan.
