Astana, 6 September 2023 (TDI): In a significant diplomatic development, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, and the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Antonio Tajani, have jointly issued a statement.

Antonio Tajani said both nations aspire to establish joint ventures within the realms of energy, agro-industry, infrastructure, and raw materials. However, the government consistently supports these enterprises.

In light of the shared commitment, Kazakhstan and Italy collaborate to promote decarbonization efforts, including the adoption of renewable energy sources and green hydrogen.

Moreover, both nations recognized the increasing significance of critical materials, strategic raw materials, rare earths, and the advancement of the hydrogen-related value chain within the context of Kazakhstan and Italy’s commitment to the dual green and digital transition.

Both Ministers considered the availability of critical materials, strategic raw materials, and rare earth in Kazakhstan, along with the mutual acknowledgment of the significance of promoting advancements in new technologies and fostering additional forms of collaboration in this sector, which has emerged as a priority for the ecological transition.

Antonio Tajani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic stated, “I had the privilege of meeting Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov. Kazakhstan stands as a crucial partner in Central Asia. The fusion of Italian industry with Kazakhstan’s abundant natural resources promises to yield outstanding results for both nations.”

In addition, the joint statement underscores Kazakhstan’s abundance of critical materials, strategic raw materials, and rare earth resources that have not gone unnoticed, and both countries recognize the importance of fostering new technologies and forms of collaboration in this sector. It has become pivotal in their collective pursuit of ecological transition and sustainability.

Furthermore, the statement references a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the European Union, signed on 7 November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

This Memorandum is aimed at establishing a strategic partnership focused on sustainable raw materials, batteries, and the renewable hydrogen value chain.

Additionally, the key objectives are to integrate strategic value chains in these sectors and align their environmental, social, and governance standards. This alignment is expected to attract private capital and foster new investments in these critical areas.
