Kazakhstan, Georgia to Enhance Cooperation

Astana, (TDI): Kazakhstan and Georgia have reaffirmed their commitment to bolster collaboration in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transportation Route (TITR).

This agreement was reached during a meeting between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Georgian First Deputy Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili on Thursday in Astana.

Both nations are strategically positioned along key transcontinental transportation corridors, offering the most direct routes from Europe to China and Southeast Asia, a statement from the Prime Minister’s press service noted.

Bektenov said that their partnership has led to a remarkable increase in cargo transshipment.

“Cargo transshipment along this route surged by 65% last year and has further escalated by 69% in the first eight months of this year, totaling 2.9 million tons,” Bektenov reported.

He emphasized the goal of raising the transportation volume along this corridor to 10 million tons.

“To achieve this, the government is implementing consistent measures to enhance transit conditions,” he stated.

Furthermore, Bektenov highlighted the necessity of continued joint efforts to establish competitive tariff structures, reduce delivery times, and boost transportation volumes along the TITR, particularly through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line.

Digitalization

He also underscored the need for digitalization within the transport corridor to enhance its appeal to international carriers.

Davitashvili reiterated the critical role of the Intergovernmental Commission between the two countries, which aims to invigorate bilateral relations.
