Almaty, 25 June 2024 (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtileu, met with the Acting Chairman of the OSCE, Malta’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Trade, Ian Borch, during his official visit to Astana.
The parties thoroughly discussed the current situation within the OSCE region and the organization itself.
Additionally, they exchanged views on potential strategies to enhance mutual trust and restore a constructive dialogue among the participating states.
M. Nurtileu emphasized the OSCE’s indispensability as the primary negotiation platform for resolving crisis situations within its region.
Furthermore, he assured that Kazakhstan will continue strengthening the OSCE and support the current chairmanship’s efforts in the spirit of the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 and the Astana Declaration of 2010.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan said:
“The principles of the Astana Declaration adopted fourteen years ago have not lost their relevance and remain important year after year. Today, Valletta chairs the Organization, fulfilling this responsibility with great honour.”
The interlocutors also discussed cooperation on issues such as the fight against international terrorism and extremism, illegal drug and arms trafficking, illegal migration, and border security.
Additionally, they discussed efforts to strengthen transport interconnections and address environmental issues in the Central Asian region.
They also discussed further constructive interaction between Kazakhstan and OSCE institutions, including the OSCE Program Office in Astana.
The focus was on implementing joint projects to promote systematic reforms and sustainable development in the country.
Moreover. as part of bilateral cooperation with Malta, the parties also identified promising areas such as maritime logistics, trade, and tourism.
The Acting Chairman of the OSCE endorsed Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative to establish “Just Kazakhstan” and commended the country’s role in promoting regional stability and security.
He emphasized that active participation and cooperation within the framework of numerous crises in the OSCE region are more crucial than ever.

In this regard, I. Borch expressed readiness for the OSCE to enhance cooperation with our country across all three dimensions of security: military-political, economic-ecological, and humanitarian.
