Astana, 30 May 2024 (TDI): Kazakhstan and Finland reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko and Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to Kazakhstan Soili Mäkeläinen-Buhanist.
The discussion focused on Kazakh-Finnish cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural spheres, as well as their collaboration within the OSCE and other international organizations.
During the meeting, it was noted that Kazakhstan is keen to further deepen its cooperation with Finland and wishes Finland success in chairing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2025.
Both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining an active political dialogue at the highest levels between Kazakhstan and Finland.
Deputy Minister Vassilenko noted that the recent telephone conversation between President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Finland Alexander Stubb confirmed that Astana and Helsinki share mutual intentions to strengthen contacts and collaboration across the entire spectrum of Kazakh-Finnish relations.
In light of further developing their partnership in the economic sphere, the diplomats welcomed the outcomes of Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio’s visit to Kazakhstan and the 13th meeting of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation held in Astana on April 11, 2024.
Furthermore, the parties engaged in a detailed discussion of the important problems of engagement within the OSCE agenda, as well as Finnish priorities during the Organization’s Chairpersonship in 2025, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act.
The Kazakh side stated its willingness to assist Finland’s efforts to increase the Organization’s capacity in all three dimensions: political-military, economic-environmental, and human-centered.

Moreover, the parties emphasized the OSCE’s critical role in addressing continuing regional and global challenges in its sphere of responsibility, as well as their commitment to further promote the Kazakh-Finnish collaboration.
