Almaty (TDI): A new scientific and educational hub, the Kazakh-German Nexus Institute, has been established through a partnership between the Kazakh-German University (DKU), the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, and the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), with support from Germany’s Hanns Seidel Foundation.
Headquartered at KazNARU in Almaty, the Nexus Institute will serve as a platform for Kazakhstani and international experts to collaborate on Central Asia’s most pressing environmental challenges. Its mission is to develop sustainable solutions in land and water management, energy, and ecology.
Core priorities include designing policies for sustainable land and water use, deploying digital tools to monitor natural resources, training specialists to respond to climate risks, and promoting practices to curb land degradation and desertification.
Germany will provide technical and financial support through the Hanns Seidel Foundation, with plans for joint research projects, strategic planning sessions, and the creation of modern educational platforms. The initiative is seen as an important milestone in Kazakh-German scientific cooperation and aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly on climate resilience and sustainability.
