Kamala Harris’ remarks about US-Vietnam relations

Washington, 30 August 2021 (TDI): Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris expressed the US and Vietnam are making progress together. Following a series of fruitful discussions with officials of Vietnam, both states have reached new agreements that will benefit the people, prosperity, and security of both countries.

The bilateral relationship between the two countries has progressed significantly over the last several decades, to the point where the two countries now cooperate on a wide range of issues, including combating COVID-19 and preparing for future health security threats, combating climate change, and dealing with shared war legacies.

The Vice President’s visit to Vietnam demonstrates the US’s significant commitment to the region, as well as the US-Vietnam friendship. Vice President Harris reiterated the US commitment to a strong, prosperous, and independent Vietnam, as well as a free, open, healthy, and resilient Indo-Pacific region, in bilateral discussions with Vietnamese officials.
