Major Objectives of SCO

SCO’s major objectives include promoting confidence and good-neighborly relations among member states; strengthening regional peace, security, and stability; and creating a framework for effective cooperation in the political sphere.

They include trade, economy, culture, science and technology, education, energy, transportation and connectivity, tourism, and environmental protection.

To ensure the SCO plays a larger role in global governance in support of the regional economy, plans are to increase its coordination and mutual support among member states, its ties with the UN and other organizations, and its focus on economic development issues.

Furthermore, other plans are to encourage internal and external interactions, build a firewall against international Islamic extremist forces, and support member states’ efforts to maintain domestic stability.

Moreover, it plans to construct a barrier to prevent the infiltration of the “color revolution” and adopt comprehensive measures to enhance member states’ capacity to ensure the security of lives and properties of other member states in their territory.
