John Cena Breaks Record, Wins 17th WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41

Las Vegas (TDI): John Cena won the title of 17th WWE World Champion, after he defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, on Sunday. He has now officially become the most decorated professional wrestler of all time.

According to WWE, after this victory, John Cena has moved past WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, who held 16 world championships throughout his professional wrestling career.

Nearly 63,226 people came to the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday evening to watch the most anticipated wrestling competition between John Cena and Cody Rhodes, including the 76-year-old Ric Flair.

To qualify for the final match to compete with Rhodes, John Cena shocked his fans by turning heel for the first time in two decades and attacking the champion alongside Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Rapper Travis Scott.

Cena’s Sunday victory appeared to be a crowning moment of his illustrious wrestling career, which he earlier said would come to an end this year.

Last summer, 48-years-old John Cena had announced that he would retire from wrestling in 2025 and focus on his acting career.

Fans had speculated that his retirement would come after WrestleMania 41, however after this win, it seems that the wrestling champion would stick around a while longer.

“I just love it,” John Cena said earlier this month, talking about the difficult decision to walk away from his passionate profession as a wrestler.

Traditionally, wrestlers lose their final championship to another competitor before announcing their retirement. However, John Cena appears to be breaking this norm when he said last month, “I will win that championship and retire with it.”

“I am taking it home with me. I’m leaving all of you to create a brand-new toy belt because the real one comes home with me. I will be the last real champion in WWE,” the wrestler commented.

Talking about the future of his career as a professional wrestler, he said, “When I can no longer compete, I will always be a member of the WWE family in some capacity, whether I can pass on my wisdom through mentorship or be an advocate and a spokesperson for the brand.”

“They certainly will have to shoo me away, because I’m like you, I’m a fan first and I love it so much,” he said.

John Cena began his acting career in 2006 with The Marine playing the role of John Triton, a US Marine officer who had been discharged from his duties to protect his family from outside invasion.

After the first film, his acting career took a flight. However, the 25-year professional wrestling veteran returned to WWE in January this year intending to surpass Ric Flair as the most decorated Professional wrestler of all time, which he had succeeded. How his fans hope that he would continue his wrestling career.
