July 1, 2021- (TDI): Today, the 3rd meeting of the Advisory Board for Promoting Science and Technology took place online. The participants included Mr. WASHIO Eiichiro, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Professor Matsumoto Yoichiro, Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Professor Kano Mitsunobu, Science and Technology Co-Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. At the start of the meeting, Mr. Washio highlighted the growing importance of Science and Technology Diplomacy in current times while referring to the G7 Summit Meeting. He added that the Ministry will continue to promote science and Technology Diplomacy based on the Integrated Innovation Strategy 2021.
The meeting was set on 4 major themes: Interlinkages between STI and security, Planetary health: STI for food system transformation, International collaboration in AI and the digital field; and strengthening the STI foundation in Japan to support Science and Technology Diplomacy. Prof. Matsumoto and Prof. Kano provided information regarding their recent activities such as presenting the latest trends in STI for the foreign youth as well as diplomats in Tokyo. The Advisory Board members discussed in detail the challenges that may come forth and the future that they envision.
