TOKYO, (TDI): Japan has expressed “serious concern” over indications that North Korean forces are stationed in Russia for potential deployment in Ukraine.
Yoshimasa Hayashi, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, stated that the government is closely monitoring North Korea’s troop movements to Russia, particularly the possibility that these forces could support Moscow’s military actions in Ukraine.
Hayashi emphasized that the recent escalation in military cooperation between North Korea and Russia not only threatens to worsen the situation in Ukraine but also poses significant risks to regional security surrounding Japan.

He remarked, “This development is deeply troubling, and we are committed to gathering and analyzing relevant information. Japan will work with the international community to ensure the complete implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and strive for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.”

Reports from Seoul indicate that approximately 3,000 North Korean troops are currently training in Russia, with plans for thousands more to be deployed by December, raising alarms about the potential impact on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
